Fall is in the air which means Oktoberfest events have started lining up!  It’s not just for grownups as many of the events make it a family affair for everyone to enjoy!  Celebrate this traditional German festival with games, crafts, bounce houses, festival foods and of course some beer for the grownups!  Here is a list of Oktoberfest events in Chicago and the suburbs for the whole family to enjoy!

Oktoberfest at St. Alphonsus - Chicago

As their motto says, celebrate German heritage Chicago style!  This is enough to bring us to this wonderful, family friendly German festival.  What we love about this fest is that they make it super kid friendly with its dedicated Kinderfest for kids of all ages to enjoy with activities such as face painting, kids can learn how to polka, obstacle course, bounce house and German storytelling!  After the family fun, enjoy the cover bands on stage with German festival foods and beer!

Kid’s Activities:  Kinderfest Family Fun on Sat and Sun from 11 AM to 4 PM.

Admission:
  $5 entrance.  Craft beer night on Friday and Saturday nights is $40 and includes tastings from European breweries and local crafts. You'll get a commemorative glass, a pretzel necklace and lots of good beer to try.

Hours: Friday, Sept 25, 2015, 5 PM to 10 PM. Saturday, Sept 26, 2015 11 AM to 10 PM.  Sunday, Sept 27, 2015 11 AM to 7 PM.

Berghoff Oktoberfest – Chicago
Beers, brats and live music is a good descriptor of this long running and popular Oktoberfest hosted by Chicago German restaurant, Berghoff.  This year is the 30th year this popular festival has been running.  While you see many parents with kiddos in tow, it is important to note that there are not any specific kid events or activities at this fest.  The people watching and outdoor space may be enough to keep the kiddos entertained for a while so it may be worth a visit as it is definitely a popular Chicago Oktoberfest event!

Kid's Activities:  No kid activities.  But, the loop location make it a convenient after work spot with the kiddos.

Oak Park OAKtoberfest

Oktoberfest or OAKtoberfest as Oak Park likes to call it is a festive fall festival for the whole family to enjoy!  The event is located in downtown Oak Park and includes a premier music line up, delicious foods from local restaurants, specialty craft beers and a Kids Root Beer Garden!  Bring the whole family as there is something here for everyone!  For city residents who want to make the trek, it is only 9 miles from the city!

Kid's Activities:
  Kids Root Beer Garden on Saturday from 12 PM to 5 PM.  It includes a kid’s musical show with Oak Park School of Rock performing on stage Saturday from 12 PM to 2 PM.  Zucchini races, root beer floats, obstacle course and skill workshops and many free games and activities sponsored by local organizations.

Admission: Free

Hours:  Friday, September 18 from 4:30 PM to 10 PM.  Saturday, September 19 from 12 PM to 10 PM.  Kids Root Beer Garden is Saturday from 12 PM to 5 PM.

Glenview Haus Oktoberfest – Glenview

Glenview House, a long standing restaurant, specializing in an extensive selection of beers and whiskey is hosting its fourth annual Oktoberfest.  It is a family fun event celebrating German food and culture.  The event includes authentic foods and music from Die Musikmeisters!  Kid’s activities available so that the kiddos can get in on the fun too!

Kid’s Activities:
Bounce house and face painting from 11 AM to 5:30 PM.

Oak Brook Oktoberfest – Oak Brook, IL

Oak Brook celebrates its 5th annual Oktoberfest with live music, kid’s activities, softball tournament, German foods and of course beer!  Also at the event is a football and volleyball tournament!  Don’t miss this family friendly event!

Kid’s Activities:  Clowns, pumpkin walk, crafts, pony rides, moon jump, fire department activities and appearance by Ronald McDonald.

Admission:  Free

Saturday, September 19 from 12 PM to 8 PM. Kid’s activities are from 1 PM to 5 PM.

Evanston Oktoberfest – Evanston, IL

Evanston Oktoberfest celebrates this festive German festival by featuring Evanston’s craft breweries and brewpubs as well as live music, food vendors, dancing and children’s activities.  You must purchase tickets to attend.

Admission: 
General admission is $35 which includes a commemorative Evanston sampling glass and four samples of beer from each of the 4 participating breweries.  Designated driver tickets are $10 each.  Kids 13 and older pay the designated drive price.

Naperville Oktoberfest – Naperville, IL

Naperville’s annual Oktoberfest celebrates its community’s heritage under their large heated tent with live music from classic rock to German oompa, along with German foods and beer.  They make it a family affair with many kid friendly activities.

Kid’s Activities:
  Saturday activities include activities such as hoola hoops and bag toss. Harvard Play Space is open Sat, Oct 3 from noon to 4pm. Nestled in a replica of a wooden fort, the Harvard Early Learning Playscape is designed for children ages 2 through 7 to explore the outdoors in a setting created just for them. The playscape playground provides opportunities for early childhood physical, imaginative and social development.
 
Admission:
  Advance tickets is $10 for adults and $5 for age 4 – 12.  Under 4 is free.  Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for age 4 – 12.  Naper Settlement members are free.

St. Joseph School Oktoberfest – Wilmette, IL

Oktoberfest at St. Joseph School is a family affair filled with shopping, foods, music and fun!  The Midwest’s best antique dealers and specialty item vendors display their wares for sale to the public.  In addition to shopping, this festival is filled with kid’s activities, German foods, beer and music.  Top it off with a dance party with music of popular cover bands!

Kid’s Activities:  A day of games, contests, entertainment and more!

Admission:  Free to attend during the day.  Evening dinner and outdoor party with music and dancing is for age 21 and over and costs $30, $20 for seniors.

Hours:  Saturday, September 19, 2015.  Antiques market is 9 AM to 4 PM and is free to attend.  Dinner and outdoor party is from 6 PM to 11:30 PM.  Kid’s festival is from 10 AM to 3 PM

Vernon Hills Oktoberfest – Vernon Hills, IL

The 10th annual Oktoberfest at the Metra Station in Vernon Hills is filled with super fun family activities, food, beer and live music.  Evening entertainment is from 7 to 10 PM which includes music, food and beer.  Kid’s activities is during the day.

Kid’s Activities:  Kid’s activities include crafts, paint your own pumpkin, free hay ride, petting zoo, balloon artist, face painting, magic and inflatables.

Celebrating 36 years of family fun, Oktoberfest in Villa Park is packed full of weekend activities.  Bring your own lawn chairs as seating is limited.  Includes live entertainment, food vendors, carnival rides and games and beer tent.

Kid’s Activities:  Carnival games and rides as well as a designated kid’s zone for a day of family fun.

Admission: Free to attend. However, unlimited carnival rides is $20 per person.

Palatine Oktoberfest – Palatine, IL

Palatine’s Oktoberfest is an event where neighbors, friends and family come together to enjoy good food, beer, music and family entertainment.  Live entertainment includes four bands plus family entertainment day on Saturday.  Opening ceremonies start at 5 pm on Friday with a short parade and the tapping of a ceremonial keg. 

Kid’s Activities:
  Special children’s programming is offered.  There will be musical and dance performances featuring local school groups and youth art organizations.

Berwyn’s historic depot district presents its fifteenth annual Oktoberfest.  This family friendly event takes place over two days.  It includes lots of good food, live performances, amusement rides, kid’s activities, crafters, vendors and beer garden.

Kid’s musicians, balloon artist, local dancers, toddler play area, coloring books, healthy eating activities, face painting, arts and crafts, obstacle course, safety activities and tattoos.

Oktoberfest at Lynfred Winery – Roselle, IL

This west suburban winery throws its annual Oktoberfest in celebration of the grape harvest.  Bring the kiddos for a weekend of fun, food, music and grape stomping and spitting!  Yes, grape stomping and spitting!  Both kiddos and adults can get in on that fun!  It is also a pig roast celebration with many contests and fun for the whole family!  Top it off with some wine from the winery and their delicious taffy apple, apple strudel or German Chocolate cake.

Kid’s Activities:  Musical sing a longs, grape stomping, grape spitting, cork tossing.

Admission: 
$3 entrance fee.  Age 13 and under are free.
