This weekend in Chicago entails lots of fall fun for families and their kiddos in tow. Whether you are looking for something indoors or out, this list has got you covered. Doane at Dusk

What: Home to the largest aperture telescope available to the public in the Chicagoland area, the Adler’s Doane Observatory provides visitors a unique opportunity to see a variety of celestial objects like the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and more!  At Doane at Dusk, our guests will enjoy nighttime telescope viewings and related discussions with Adler Astronomers after museum hours.

Date/Time: Friday October 14, 2016 from 7 – 9 pm.

Cost: FREE and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. No tickets are needed.

What: Serving brunch daily, yes, you read the right! And, who doesn’t love brunch! Hutch Chicago offers a take on American classics including appetizers like the Hutch board (cured meats, Wisconsin cheese curds, jumbo corn nuts, house pickles and seasonal garnish), skillet shrimp and tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons. Brunch is daily from 10 AM to 3 PM. It is a warm and inviting place for families with kids in tow.

Lincoln Park Zoo Fall Fest – Chicago, IL 

What: Fall fest at Lincoln Park Zoo is country fun without leaving the city!  This 2nd annual fall festival features a variety of family fun activities across the main zoo grounds and at the Farm in the Zoo. This free family celebration features animal chats, musical entertainment, a pumpkin carver and fall-themed enrichment for the animals.

Pumpkin Patch at Skinner Park – Near West Side

What: The Chicago Park District brings a little bit of country to the city with its annual Pumpkin Patches.  Not interested in the drive to the burbs this year or the crowds at the suburban pumpkin patch/mini amusement parks.  Well, there is no need to leave the city for some fall pumpkin fun!

Attractions:  You can pick your personal favorite pumpkin and personalize it at the pumpkin decorating station.  Enjoy Halloween themed carnival games, petting zoo, pony rides, tattoos, harvest photo station and much much more!

Seadog Chicago Haunted River Tours

What: Experience the sights, lights, and frights of Chicago this Halloween! Through the month of October, discover Chicago’s spookier side aboard Seadog. Let our talented tour guides divulge the many secrets, spirits, scandals, and sins of the Windy City through spine tingling tales of mysterious supernatural occurrences and infamous figures along the beautiful Chicago River.

Enjoy one of the best views of the Chicago skyline from the Chicago River. This ride includes suspenseful commentary on the city of Chicago’s most haunting mysteries and legends. The tour is family-friendly but may contain sensitive content. Because Seadog is an open-air vessel, cruising is dependent on weather conditions.

This ride is not recommended for guests with conditions related to neck or back or who may be pregnant.

What: From superheroes to undersea adventures, princesses to dinosaurs, Storytown takes you on an interactive, fully improvised adventure. The actors use audience suggestions and ideas to create a different story every week. Kids design the setting and help shape the story. The actors, artists and musicians bring it to life. When the possibilities are endless, no two stories are ever the same.

Date/Time: Shows are every Saturday at 10:30 AM.

Age: Shows are recommended for ages 3-10 and their whole family.

Artist Studio at Art Institute of Chicago

What: With free admission for kids under 14, the Art Institute is a perfect family outing! Drop in at the Artist’s Studio in the Ryan Learning Center, and work as a family on an art project that you can take home. Activities are thematically linked to artwork in the museum’s collection and special exhibitions. 

Artist’s Studio programs are designed for children of all ages along with their caregivers and take place daily in the Family Room during Family Room hours. Admission to the Ryan Learning Center is always free, so come as often as you like!

What: On Free Days, basic admission is free for Illinois residents. Must show valid proof of residency. Additional Free Days for 2016 will be announced in late spring.

Kids Eat Free at Pizzeria Frasco

What: Frasca is a neighborhood Italian restaurant that is very kid friendly.  Their specialties include pizzas, hearty pastas and an extensive selection of wine. The main dining room is open and inviting with comfortable leather banquets, wood tables and large retractable windows, perfect for a cozy winter’s night or family dining. 

The menu includes a kids menu for dinner and brunch.  Kids are treated to crayons and coloring pages to keep them entertained.

Date/Time: Kids eat FREE Daily from 4:30 to 6 PM.

Cost: Kids eat FREE is limited to ages 12 and under. Two kids meals free with each paying adult, kids must choose from the kids menu.
